How did you get into graphic design?

When I was about 5 or 6 years old, my family got our first computer. I started playing around in Microsoft Paint and really liking it to the point where my family took notice. My mom printed out most of it and made a little scrapbook.

In high school, right around the time that teachers start talking about the future, I was starting to freak out. I thought "what the heck am I going to do for the rest of my life?".

One day my dad came home from work with a CD Rom that he got bundled with one of his work softwares. That CD Rom happened to be Photoshop 5.5. So I started playing around in Photoshop 5.5 and really loving it. That got me thinking "hey this is something that I can kind of see myself doing".

How do you ensure that an email is engaging?

My mindset when I'm creating something for email is to create something that I wouldn't mind getting in my inbox. Copy-wise, I steer clear of the corporate boasting.

An example of corporate boasting is when an email says "we have the best products!". That's not something that relates to the customer. So I go more for the customer-centric messaging. For example "You're going to love this!" or "this is going to look great on you".
