How to Clickbait: Email Subject Line

In today’s world of constant “check this out” and “you won’t believe this” emails, it is extremely important to stand out from the crowd. A subject line that grabs your audience's attention can make a huge difference! Here are some of our do's and don'ts on how to effectively "clickbait" 🎣

Do’s

Quick Read

A subject line must grab your customer's attention in a few seconds. As our attention spans get shorter, the need for an effective clickbait subject line grows. Keep the subject line short to ensure that the viewer will be able to read it in its entirety, especially on mobile devices. We suggest keeping the subject line under 8 words.

Add Emojis

Emojis are a great way to grab your customer's attention. It will look more aesthetically pleasing. Using emojis that are relevant to the brand will help add some pizzazz to the subject line. Make sure that you use emojis that make sense and limit to using one emoji so that it does not come across as a spam email.

Appropriate Wordage

Use words such as “hack” over “secret”. This will reduce your chances of ending up in the spam box. Use words that will trigger interest from your audience.

Don’ts

Lengthy Subject Lines

As mentioned before, lengthy subject lines may get cut off on mobile devices. Additionally, shorter subject lines are more direct and are easy for the audience to grasp.

Spammy Buzzwords

Using spammy buzzwords will increase your chances of ending up in the spam box. Be descriptive and concise while avoiding overused buzzwords. Use the brand's tone to your advantage and avoid any overused terms.

Unclear Messaging

Avoid vague or unclear messaging in your subject lines. Make your messaging clear so that your customers know exactly what they are in store for.
